Latest mainstream media debacle
Mary has a nice roundup of links on the Killian forgery accusations. Charles has been using his years of experience with desktop publishing to point out many inconsistencies in the documents. You have to wonder how dumb the forgers (and the mainstream media) are to not even remember that word processors didn't exist in 1972. And Killian's family is not supporting the documents either.Meanwhile, CBS News stands by its story, without actually refuting the forgery charges. But if they are right, they - or anyone - can pick up an easy $10,000 by reproducing the memos on a typewriter that would have been in use in 1972. Any takers?
UPDATE: Vodkapundit too. And Tim Blair. And Allah.
UPDATE: Photoshop Phun with MS Word's little Clippy creature, here (scroll down) and here.
UPDATE: I suspect the $10,000 aren't going anywhere. (Nope, it wasn't an IBM Composer, either. Aside from the technical issues, this type of costly sophisticated machine would be way overkill for your average memo-writer, not to mention that the documents don't look anything like real Armed Forces documents of the period.) (This whole debacle is so Watergate, right down to the arrogant ineptness of it and the frantic, yet totally absurd, fingerpointing. More.)
UPDATE: I check Memeorandum every day, and I have never seen so many stories devoted to one topic, with so many bloggers linking to each story. The Shot Heard Round the World, indeed.
UPDATE: A recap of mainstream media lies and distortions over the past few years.
Next installment here.

This ties in nicely with the politics-and-techies meme. Mary had some good points on the earlier thread.
If there is a "marketplace of ideas" then the blogosphere is the New York Stock Exchange. The strongest arguments and the most reliable facts will rise to the top, while the worthless ones will crash and burn. The Left is in self-destruct mode now, as is only further evidenced by this clumsy, juvenile forgery.
