About Kesher Talk

  • "Kesher" means "connection" in Hebrew. The banner image is the mosaic floor of a 6th c. synagogue in Jericho, showing a menorah flanked by a shofar and lulav; the inscription reads "Shalom Al Yisrael." (This synagogue was destroyed by Arab vandals a few years ago. The condition of the mosaic floor is unknown.)

Jews for Bush coming out of the woodwork Dept.

Previous collection of liberal Jews for Bush anecdotes and news stories, and links to other entries here.

This is not a particularly savory analogy given some historical antisemitic stereotypes, but here goes: There's a rule of thumb that for every mouse you actually see in your kitchen late at night, you have twelve. For every actual sighting (or self-outing, to be more accurate) of a liberal Jew for Bush, how many do you think are keeping quiet? Think about it.

Attila links to and comments on the latest frustrated "why are my smart people so stupid?" rant, in the Weekly Standard. (And it's a good one.) He talks about liberalism as a religion, which is a not entirely accurate cliche; it is possible to explicate most Democratic party positions as expressions of Jewish values. But it is also possible to explicate current Republican policy the same way (for example, freeing the oppressed from slavery and promoting an ownership society), especially since Bush's foreign policy reflects 20th c. liberalism better than Kerry's.

FrumDad tries to convince Orthodox Jews to vote for Kerry. Like every other Kerry apologist, he starts from all the discredited premises that Democratic talking points are based on (evangelical Christians only support Israel for eschatalogical purposes, the case for deposing
Saddam collapses if no WMD stockpiles, Bush's deficit is worse than staying in a recession, he even quotes Michael Moore's "Bush let the bin Ladens leave the country" crap), so his argument doesn't get any traction with me. And I do get tired of debunking those same talking points over and over, so read the comment threads responding to Jeff Jarvis. Also Jane Galt's comments are good.

UPDATE: One Jew for Bush gets the smackdown from a self-righteous arbiter of acceptable discourse.

UPDATE: Vodkapundit says the Jews he knows in the Conservative movement (which does not have the meanings associated with that word in political discourse; its adherents are usually politically liberal) are voting for Bush. I hang out mostly with Conservative Jews and most of them aren't, but read the article he links, about the end of the "Jewish vote."

UPDATE: Looks like it's happening in Jewish California too.

Many thanks for the link. I'm very serious when I say it's an honor.

Your response to Jarvis today was pretty stinging. Wow! I hope I don't get on your bad side.
