Random campaign related stuff

You may have heard about Al-Guardian's touchingly naive project to influence the election by encouraging their audience of lefty Brits to target undecided voters in a crucial county in Ohio with pleading letters to vote for Kerry. They even enlisted some big-name writers. Touchingly naive behavior brings out the cruelty in some people, and the slavering rightwing blogosphere - roused to a bloody fervor by Tim Blair - has been having its fun. Check out the comments at this endearingly enthusiastic Brit's blog and this fisking of John Le Carre's letter.

Donald Luskin makes a case that George Soros or someone like him is trying to manipulate the electronic futures markets, where people bet real money on the probabilities of a particular candidate winning the election or team winning the World Series. All the markets have been very bullish for Bush, in contrast to many of the polls. TradeSports' records show someone betting to deliberately bring Bush's numbers down, rather than to make money. More from Jonathan Gewirtz. (Meanwhile Bush is in the high 50s on both InTrade and IowaMarkets.)

Everyone's favorite New Jersey swing voter, Jeff Jarvis, says there are almost no signs up in his neighborhood. I did the Walk the Vote thing yesterday in Plainfield, and saw several of each. (Today, President Bush spoke in Burlington, NJ. Here's a transcript.)

A bit of factchecking:
Kerry claims that Bush is the only president to have a net loss of jobs during his tenure. Not true. Nor has Bush presided over the largest loss of jobs in one term. (Even if he had, come on: 9-11, plus the start of the tech bust? We're doing very well, considering.)

UPDATE: If you've wondered how John Edwards earned the sobriquet "the Breck Girl," watch this.

UPDATE: Latest on the electronic market manipulation attempts.

"Kerry claims that Bush is the only president to have a net loss of jobs during his tenure."

Factcheck: I'm pretty sure Kerry never said anything like this.
