Three assessments of Arafat's legacy.
The Norwegian Turd is at it again.
The Norwegian diplomat Terje Roed-Larsen, who serves as the United Nation's Middle East envoy, heaped praise on Arafat yesterday with an enthusiasm that would make a Gaullist blush. "He was like a surrealistic painting, full of contradictions, full of mystery, full of inconsistencies," Mr. Roed-Larsen told Norwegian state radio NRK. "He was complex, deep, superficial, rational, irrational, cold, warm. He may be the most fascinating person I have ever met, and without comparison the most fascinating leader I have ever met."(More highlights from the Turd's career.)
Our friends the French are considering naming streets after Arafat.

Roed-Larsen seems to be confused about the difference between real life and novels. In novels, one can admire the author's skill in creating a "fascinating" character who does bad things, because the bad things don't really happen. Out here in the world, they do happen and the results are permanant for many people.

Before we move on to the next phase, we have to milk his slow death and continually changing prognosis for everything it's worth. The Monty Python sketch about the dead parrot was pretty obvious, but I also found precedents in James Joyce's Ulysses and the '60s-era comedy Get Smart.
