Blog socializing fabulosity
The best way to get together with out of town bloggers is to notice when they post about going to NYC and then ask them if they want to meet. That's how I met "Tom Paine", Roger Simon, Iowahawk, and now Michael Totten. (So far it hasn't worked with Tim Blair, who is too beautiful to deign to consort with the likes of me.)(As an aside, one of the things I love about living in NYC is that it's a major travel destination, so I can catch people when they come here for other purposes. "Tom," on his expensive only vacation to the northern hemisphere, was not going to schlep all the way to Austin, for example.)
Unbeknownst to each other, Mary and I begged Michael to bestow his blogger celebrity upon us, and apparently the accumulated pleading had its desired effect, plus the fact that Michael had no plans for Saturday evening while his wife engaged in professional networking. So the three muskateers proceeded to drive each other and Michael crazy with blase metropolis email one-upmanship about avant-trendy art happenings and obscure ethnic food. Then I caught sight of Karol's post about her friend's party, and we threw that into the mix. Then I got a plaintive email from Jeremy, and he and Cara were added to the mix. (In fact, I had asked Jeremy and Cara if they wanted to meet a few months ago when they were in town, but their schedules hadn't allowed it.)
I see everyone else has gotten their reports up already, so you can read all about the fahhhbulous lives of blog celebrities from the man himself, Mary, Jeremy and Cara (with pix!), Karol, Ken (who I didn't get around to introducing to Michael and I feel very guilty and owe Ken a few drinks at the very least), Jessica, Yaron, Zelda, and last but not least, the birthday girl (whom none of us got to meet, but apparently she was somewhere in that loud dark crowded sweaty bar getting spanked by her friends).
