Did you know the first written description of pasta is in the Talmud? (The Yerushalmi, which would make sense since in both geography and time it would be closest to the Roman Empire.) (Well, I am assuming that pasta is indeed Italian, and not introduced to Europe from China by Marco Polo, and the Talmud description would seem to support that since it was written way before Polo made his trips to Asia.)
