Antisemitism watch - the Bensky Theory
Previous antisemitism watch here.Alex Bensky, "uber-commenter" to both Meryl and myself, has a theory about NGOs like Amnesty and Human Rights Watch. So far Meryl has not found any counter-examples - would the KT readership care to take a crack at it? We don't want to accuse them unjustly.
More from Alex:
What do you people expect HRW to do? They have sent a very stiff note to Hamas stating, in no uncertain terms, that they aren't happy that Hamas is killing non-Jews.Sigh. It's hard not to get that cynical sometimes.I believe that Hamas, when reminded of international humanitarian standards, will cease killing non-Jews. Of course, I also believe that Lucy Lawless is about to ring my doorbell and ask if she can come in and get out of these wet clothes.
As to Hamas, and everybody else, killing Jews, well, it's not nice but it's nothing to get worried about, really. Happens all the time.
P.J. O'Rourke says that all the isms of the twentieth century except Zionism turned out to be based on misunderstandings of human nature. Zionism wasn't--Zionists understood that civilized people wanted to kill Jews and unless stopped, would continue to do so.
The AUT boycott is a perfect example of Alex's thesis. Norm Geras and Eve Garrard both take apart the logical inconsistancies in the AUT "boycott Israel" position, in the course of which it becomes very clear that there is no reason to single out Israel. Except for "except for Jews."
