Tricky Dick blows off 212

A friend emails me:
When I called Durbin's office, I was asked if I was calling from NY because they say I had a 212 exchange. Then she said - we're keeping our line open for Illinois voters - don't you bother us again - and hung up on me. Nice.
UPDATE: Soccer Dad emails:
I once called Charles Rangel's office to clarify something. In the end his staff acceded to my request, but was very hesitant to do so because I don't live in his district (or even his state for that matter.) These representatives can be remarkably parochial.
Yeah, but. Durbin has been extremely controversial on a national issue. It's not about his district.

Can we call Sen. Schumer on his non response about this? Sen. Charles E. Schumer, New York Democrat, refused to address the ADL criticism of Mr. Durbin, saying only that Republicans "will do anything for a diversion." Pressed to give his opinion of the matter, Mr. Schumer turned his back on reporters and ignored the questions.--Wash Times Jun 21, 2005

Actually when I contacted Rangel's office it was about a critical column the late Eric Breindel had written about him. Rangel had gone over the top with some comments, though I don't remember their substance. So that wasn't exactly a local issue either.
