I was very impressed not just by Geldof's commitment, but more important, by his encyclopedic knowledge and his hard-headed recognition of the need for reform. Plus, he won me over by describing Robert Mugabe as a "thug like Fidel Castro."He also has a link to audio of the teleconference - well worth a listen. I take back what I said about Geldof before - he really gets it.
UPDATE: Smash consults Thos. P. M. Barnett, who is not optimistic about economic aid.
