Preparing for teshuvah: Responsibility
Previous Rosh Chodesh Ellul post and intro to Rabbi Scheinerman's guide to teshuvah using Psalm 27 (which is recited every day from Rosh Chodesh Ellul until Yom Kippur).
I'm going to try to post some Ellul food for thought every day until Yom Kippur here. You can also find the link on the sidebar under "Yamim Noraim."
Today begins the first week of Ellul, the month of self-assessment before Rosh Hashanah. The theme for this week in Rabbi Sheinerman's guide is Responsibility.
. . . the first step in the process of teshuvah is taking responsibility. What are you prepared to take responsibility for at this time? Perhaps it is something that you have previously blamed on others (rest assured, we've all done that). This is the most difficult step of teshuvah and until we succeed we cannot move forward. There is much more, read the whole thing.
