Its ways are ways of pleasantness and all its paths are peace

[ UPDATE: Barefoot Jewess on dancing with the Torah (and touching on what I love about Jewish men). ]

Here in NYC we are putting on our long johns and Goretex and woolly mitts so we can dance in the streets with the Torah tonight (a custom which Samuel Pepys found a bit too boisterous for his liking). If I were back in Austin, which is on the same latitude as Israel, it would be in the 60s and clear. But I wouldn't have the justly famed multi-denominational Simchat Torah street scene a short walk from my front door. I hope West Side Institutional is including hot chocolate in their lavish buffet.

Lots of obscure factoids about the evolution of this holiday, which didn't solidify into its present form until a few centuries ago.

Naomi Chana has a typically twisted take on Jewish festivities with the Gashlycrumb Torah. She needs to fill in a few letters so go over there and help her out. (In the comments, Rachel points out that this effort is well within the tradition of acrostic piyyutim.)

Speaking of Torah: the metrosexual Bereysheet. (I got this from Asher. Blame him.)

Latest in a series of entertainingly geeking out over the minutae of Jewish observance. Some people just have to be contrarians.

UPDATE: Lots and lots of Torah factoids.
