About Kesher Talk

  • "Kesher" means "connection" in Hebrew. The banner image is the mosaic floor of a 6th c. synagogue in Jericho, showing a menorah flanked by a shofar and lulav; the inscription reads "Shalom Al Yisrael." (This synagogue was destroyed by Arab vandals a few years ago. The condition of the mosaic floor is unknown.)

The city that never sleeps

I saved a few stills from the Google Map NYC Traffic Cam site. These were from live cams taken about 11 PM, 10/26/05.

This is 8th Ave. entering Columbus Circle, looking south (I guess the cam is somewhere on the statue of Columbus?). It's three blocks from my apartment. The new Time-Warner Center would be directly to your right. The hideous new Hearst skyscraper is on the right, two blocks down. [PS. In the upper right corner you can see part of the light sculpture that runs up the side of the T-W center.]

This is looking north, up Central Park West from Columbus Circle. [ UPDATE: No, it's looking east from Columbus Circle, down Central Park South. ]

This is downtown Manhattan from the Brooklyn Bridge, facing west. The cam must be on top of one of the bridge towers.

This is the George Washington Bridge toll plaza, from the Fort Lee side, facing east. I wonder where that cam sits, maybe on top one of the big apartment buildings that line the Hudson on that side. My aunt lives in one of those, but farther down. But you can see the bridge from her window.

This is the GW bridge from the Manhattan side, facing northwest. Purty, huh?

» Dawn rises over the city that never sleeps from Kesher Talk
Absolutely rocking dawn earlier this week. Very fuschia pink, all over the east. I tried to catch it on snapshots from some of the traffic cams, but most of them don't point east or at the sky. You can get... [Read More]
