About Kesher Talk

  • "Kesher" means "connection" in Hebrew. The banner image is the mosaic floor of a 6th c. synagogue in Jericho, showing a menorah flanked by a shofar and lulav; the inscription reads "Shalom Al Yisrael." (This synagogue was destroyed by Arab vandals a few years ago. The condition of the mosaic floor is unknown.)

Yes, we do everything better in Texas

Everyone's linking to this over the top holiday light display, and I have to wonder if this guy blasts that soundtrack out his window while the display is flashing. Then I wonder if his neighbors love him or hate him.

But once you've seen the Austin, TX, 37th St. lights, nothing else will impress you a whole lot.

The best story about the lights. Very sweet, really captures the Austin zeitgeist.

An account by one of the regulars, describing what he puts in his front yard and what it's like to have 10,000 visitors streaming past every year.

As close as you can get to being immersed in the experience without actually being there: A virtual tour of the street with QTVR photos. More QTVR photos - pick any address on the drop down menu and have fun! God, I'm homesick.

No, the music is broadcast from an FM transmitter in his garage so people can listen to it on their car radios. Joe Neighbor hears nothing unless he tunes in. That bit of creative thinking is one reason the Ohio guy's display is so impressive.
