Hamas mind games

Roger Simon notes that a Hamas leader has offered a "truce" if Israel pulls back to the Green Line.

This is a clever way for Hamas to recoup its recently tattered image and make Israel look bad. Hamas can appear generous and seemingly act contrary to its stated mission to destroy Israel. Those who were discomfited by having to acknowledge Hamas' true colors, can now reassure themselves that Hamas isn't as bloodthirsty as they almost had to admit. If Israel doesn't take up Hamas on its offer, Israel appears to be "obstructing the peace process."

See what I mean? They are already rationalizing the Hamas victory. A new condemnation of Israel shouldn't be too far behind.

Shavua Tov, Chodesh Tov, will there be a Havel Havelim?

A truce, translated in Hamas-language:

"Give us a break to rearm. We'll terminate the truce when we're done. You'll be notified in due time, the messenger will cary a bomb belt."

If Hamas is offering a truce, then apparently they're currently at war with Israel?

If so, then apparently Israel is authorized and directed to employ their entire military force and the resources of the Government to carry on war against Government of "Palestine" with the goal of bringing the conflict to a successful termination.

As far as I know, those are the rules.

Well, it's a "hudna" not a real truce. Do the same rules apply?

Judith Weiss | January 30, 2006 02:07 PM

That's up to Israel, but I hope they do.
