About Kesher Talk

  • "Kesher" means "connection" in Hebrew. The banner image is the mosaic floor of a 6th c. synagogue in Jericho, showing a menorah flanked by a shofar and lulav; the inscription reads "Shalom Al Yisrael." (This synagogue was destroyed by Arab vandals a few years ago. The condition of the mosaic floor is unknown.)

Thrown to the Wolves

The sleazeoids are out and about this weekend. First Michael Schiavo and his TerriPAC, and now a campaign to discredit Dutch MP and challenger of Islamism, Ayaan Hirsi Ali.

After a lecture tour in the US, Ali has come home to Holland to face a campaign to evict her from her adopted country as well as from her apartment. A Dutch news program dug up an old well-known story about the rather minor lies she told to get asylum, and tries to discredit her through innuendo and solicited but unverifiable statements by her relatives. For example:

Hirsi Ali said she came clean about the lies she told to get asylum when she joined the Liberal Party (VVD) in 2002. Yet prominent VVDer (and now EU Commissioner) Nelie Kroes described Hirsi Ali as a person who had lived through five civil wars in Somalia. This was not true as Hirsi Ali lived in Kenya for over 10 years before coming to the Netherlands.
The insinuation is that this MP has a false impression because Hirsi Ali hid the truth. However, the facts were in plain view in this Guardian story a year ago:
In 1989, the year that Ayatollah Khomeini issued his fatwa against Salman Rushdie, Ayaan Hirsi Ali was a devout student attending the Muslim Girls' Secondary School in Nairobi. Her father, a Somali rebel leader, had the previous year led an insurgency into the Somali region of Ayl in a failed attempt to overthrow the dictatorship of Mohammed Siad Barre. The family continued to sit out their exile in Kenya. By the age of 20, Hirsi Ali had been wearing the full hijab for four years.
The Dutch report is as weak as it is sleazy - truly tabloid quality. But it will stir up easily suggestible people who want to sacrifice her to the beast in hopes that it will eat them last. If you don't have a strong stomach, stay away from the "discussion forum." Fear makes people savage.
