Lovin' and Sizzlin' With Debbie Schlussel

Columnist Debbie Schlussel stirred up a hornets' nest of rage with her posting yesterday on American women who go online to date, mate, and replicate with green-card hungry Middle Eastern men. Her essay, "Ticket to Ride: Gullible American Chicks are Islam's Most Wanted," generated very heated debate at her website, well worth reading. One of the passages that got the spirited discussion rolling:

Not surprisingly, many of these women are on the more zaftig side--difficult to attract American men's attention, but desirable in the Arab Mid-East. These vulnerable women, desperate for attention, are extremely gullible and easily agreeable to a quickie marriage. They are just some of those born to P.T. Barnum's predicted birthrate of suckers.

The comments blast back and forth on several matters. First, whether Schlussel fairly summarizes the nature of women on Visa Journey, the website dealing with immigration issues that is the basis of the story; whether Middle Eastern men are manipulative potential terrorists or just good solid guys (one protesting Moroccan husband wrote in to say, "I prey 5 times a day"); and the ethics of posting the pictures and story details of women who have information on Visa Journey.

One piece of advice offered by pro-Schlussel readers: no women should be allowed to marry a man from the Middle East without seeing the Sally Fields movie "Not Without My Daughter."

Just think good Muslims will marry an infidel for love- and maybe a green card. It does make me pause !

I prey five times a day - I love that! - that's a classic! It should be a mantra. Or a heading at LGF.

Ah, the semiotic beauty of a semi-illiterate double entendre.
