[ From Judith: My cross-post on Winds of Change on this topic is generating lots of discussion (which I wish would happen here, but WoC gets much more traffic). ]
Lebanese Blogger Forum: Peace now!
Enough! Enough wars, death and destruction! Curse you Hezbollah to hell and back! For all this destruction, for all this death! No it is not Israel fault! It is your own! Curse you!We cannot continue on this path! People build and teach and try to live peacfully, while others think only of death, destruction and war… the time has come to stand and say one word: PEACE
I want peace with Israel! NOW! I do not care for your ideologies, or your lines drawn on maps! For your religions! For anything! PEACE NOW!
Vox's Den: Israel should bomb Iran and Syria.
The purpose of Hezbollah's operation is crystal-clear. Hezbollah used the same operating mode than Hamas, the kidnapping of Israeli soldiers, and it is hoping to diminish the pressure on their peer terrorist Ismail Haniyeh while building up an international/Arab/Islamic pressure on the Israelis. By doing so, Hezbollah 'solidarized' the Lebanese with the Palestinians, except that nobody in Lebanon ever asked for this. We've been made "solidary" enough with the Palestinians during the last decade, being killed for and by the Palestinians while neighbouring countries were busy falling back to the Middle Ages (and that's an insult to the Middle Ages).Ehud Olmert says that the presence of the Hezbollah in the government means that Hezbollah policy is official policy. Theoretically he got a point; but in an abnormal country like Lebanon, where terrorist militia run free Olmert knows that politics are more complicated than that. Nevertheless, I think that the government should exclude Hezbollah from its rank, and the sooner the better.
The comments on this next one are especially interesting:
Beirut Spring: Let's make a deal.
We will support Hezbollah for now. We will unite behind them as long as we’re under attack. We will not criticize them publicly. They are welcome in our houses and in our cities. This is a time for unity, not squabbling. ...

fuck hezbullah. Every time they decide to consolidate power it sets the country back 20 years. At July 13, 2006 7:02 AM, Anonymous said...
"We will support Hezbollah for now."Nice little bit of Pan Arabism for you, and so much for your "No To Terrorism" image to the right of your post.
Here's a little reminder that both the United states and the European Union has labelled Hezbollah a terrorist organization:

All bets are off when the Israelis are retaliating, I guess.

Completely disagree with your post. We are sick of Hezballah. If we stick behind them now, we will regredt it for ever.Fire all the ministers.
Ask for international assistance to forcefully disarm them
And let's end this now!At July 13, 2006 7:06 AM, abaucero said...
So now your hearts will be with your brothers??? And who are your brothers? The same animals who caused this on your country? The same animals who wanted all other militias to disarm, except for themselves? I've been a reader of your blog since the beginning, I've been an enthousiastic supporter of your "orange revolution", I've been on of the few in my country who said that not all Arabs are the same, that Lebanese are different because a year ago they managed to bring to the streets a milion people to protest not Israel or the USA, but Syria. Now you've disappointed me greatly, once again you propose to unite and support "your brothers". I'm very sorry and sad in saying this, but with your fear, with your contorted and backward mindset, you've called upon yourselves and your country the righteous and unstoppable rage of Israel. Your government is fully responsible, and your country is an enemy now.At July 13, 2006 7:06 AM, AbdulKarim said...

We've seen where "realism" has gotten us. Over the last few months, the mainstream press gave sneering praise to President Bush for apparently stepping back from his ambitious goals of ending tyranny in the Middle East. The dreaded neoconservatives -... [Read More]
