Jews Take to the Streets: "Free Gilad Now!"
Around 1,000 people rallied on Second Avenue in New York at noon today across the street from the Syrian Mission to the UN. They demanded the release of kidnapped IDF soldier Gilad Shalit. Speakers including publisher Morton Zuckerman and New York State Assembly Speaker Sheldon Silver directed their ire at the Syrians during the raucous event. Silver said, "It's Syria that directs the terror against Israel. . . don't let them hide behind that fancy wall."

Beautiful. Yehi Ohr.
Keep it up. There's such an obvious difference between these messengers and the darkness on the other side.

What about the demonstration at the NY Times building? How did that one come off?
Any photos to display?
[VW comment: My day job is keeping me from attending that, alas, but I'm sure either a KT operative or other bloggers will be covering it.[

Would that be the wall Israel built to grab more Palestinian land? And why in hell do they think Syria is behind Gilad's kidnapping? Are they so fucking ignorant they don't think some of the Palestinians could have done it?
I hope the terrorists who kidnapped Gilad return him safely (that's his safety I mean, not theirs - they can get what's coming to them). I imagine, though, that as a serving IDF soldier he would be embarrassed and ashamed by a bunch of New Yorkers so cowardly they can't even name his kidnappers. Pa-les-tin-i-ans. You know, the people Israel invaded 39 years ago. Or dispossessed 59 years ago. Anyway - the ones the Americans are so shit scared of they can't mention their name. Them. Gilad Shalit was kidnapped by a bunch of Palestinian terrorists. Try saying it a few times. Most likely the same terrorists who murdered Eliyahu Asheri. Why let them off the hook by blaming Syria?
Surely if the IDF thought it was Syria who had Shalit they'd be attacking SYria rather than Gaza? While I'm no great fan of the IDF, even I give them credit for picking the right country to attack. Why should the New Yorkers be right and the IDF guys on the spot wrong?
Perhaps the notoriously xenophobic Americans just found Syria easier to spell than Palestine?
Rob, they know the Palestinians did it. But they also know Syria runs Hamas. Why do you think the IDF buzzed Assad's house?
Also, Israel didn't "invade" anyone 39 years ago. Israel captured territory from Jordan and Egypt in a war. The Arabs living there were Jordanians and Egyptians. There had been some agitation for independence from Jordan.
After the war Israel offered to return both territories in exchange for permanent peace and recognition of Israel. The Arab bloc said no, because they wanted the Palestinians to be Israel's problem not theirs.
As for dispossession, Jews were ethnically cleansed from their native land in 586 BCE, 70 AD, and the 7th cent. in the invasion by the newly Muslim Arabs from the east. Jews kept coming back and repossessing their land to whatever extent they were able. Israel's recreation didn't ethnically cleanse anyone, which is why 20% of Israel's citizens are Arab Palestinians.
Until the state of Israel was formed, everyone living there called themselves "Palestinian." then the Jews started calling themselves "Israeli" and the Arabs who wanted to rule themselves started calling themselves "Palestinians."
If they accepted Israel's right to exist and gave up terrorism they would have a state by now. In fact, some of them do anyway, and they buy weapons with aid money and shoot over the heads of children, and destroy infrastructure donated to them to build businesses with.
Since our newsmedia have stories about the Palestinians every day, yes, we do know how to spell it.
