Mumbai 7/11/06
I'm sorry we haven't posted on the Mumbay bombings until now, nor the anniversary of the London bombings. The big blogs and aggregators (and more aggregators) pick up these major stories so fast, I feel there's not much for us to say, besides joining in with our sorrow and outrage that terrorists continue to escalate their mass murders.
Obviously they are targeting US allies whom they perceive as being susceptible to intimidation. It worked with Spain, but not with Britain. I don't think it will work with India.

I don't think they are targeting India because they are a US ally or to intimidate them. India has a population of some 300 million Muslims and I suspect these bombers are trying to start a sectarian war, somewhat like in Iraq. What they might gain from such a war escapes me, but then I don't harbor the same illusions of Islamic dominance that seems to drive these people.

One need only remember the Muslim-Hindu clashes in India during Mahatma Gandhi's lifetime to realize that this could become a powderkeg too.
