Solidarity Rally for Israel: Report from Stamford CT
At least 400 people packed Congregation Agudath Shalom in Stamford CT last night, one of a series of rallies to support Israel.
Pulled together in only 48 hours, the rally lasted almost two hours and had an impressive cross-section of the community, with almost all the local rabbis, from Reform to Chabad, speaking. Keynoter was David Saranga, Israeli consul for media and public affairs. Representative Chris Shays also appeared and got a very warm response.
The Stamford Advocate ran this report.
For me, the highlight was hearing the comments of teens from a Kulanu group that arrived back in Stamford two days ago. Their parents decided to let them complete the trip, and they were all glad they did.
United Jewish Federation president Fred Springer ended the evening with a clear call to action -- to make a donation of support. There's nothing new or unexpected about that, but compared to other rallies the call gave the audience a way to follow up on their support and emotions of the evening.
