Keeping the Jewish Community Safe

I got a link yesterday to the Secure Community Network (SCN), which keeps Jewish organizations informed of terrorism threats and prevention techniques. Given the huge need, I was pleased to learn about this year-old effort. The freshness of information on the home page shows that SCN is really paying attention to threats. For example, the site comments on the recent Seattle shooting:

We have been tragically reminded that the threat posed from individuals carrying out attacks based on ideology and hate is real and current. The threat of individuals acting alone, often referred to as a "lone wolf" scenario, remains a primary concern to law enforcement. These individuals, often inspired by radical ideologies or sympathetic to certain causes or groups, strike out with little or no warning, making the prevention of these often unpredictable attacks even more challenging.

Radical ideologies -- what might those be? The site doesn't say, showing once again how Jewish groups dare not speak the name of those who slaughter us. But at least SCN tiptoes a little closer to reality, in contrast to the "single deranged individual who does not appear to have any connection whatsoever with any organized group" malarkey that my local JCC used as the explanation for its recent security changes.

Last time I checked, it was the IDF that was doing the "slaughtering". 900 lebanese civilians killed? How's the weather on planet Delusion.

Van - oddly enough all the world's terrorism isn't directed against Jews, or even Americans (or even Britons). Arguably the worst lot still active are the Liberation Tigers of Tamil Eelam, who are motivated by a radical ideology that has nothing to do with Israel and everything to do with Hinduism. Until failrly recently (when its leader was arrested) Sendero Luminoso in Peru ran them pretty close in both effectiveness and sheer unpleasantness; and they are simply Marxists. Who the people are who slaughter you depends where you go, even if you're Jewish.

[VW comment: Thanks for the comment. Other groups beyond Jews are targets: Bahais, Copts in Egypt, Hindus. The world is dangerous. My perspective here is on the Jewish community because that's the one to which I belong and have the most knowledge.]
