Nutroots Go Stalinist in CT
Lanny Davis, former special counsel to President Clinton, shows just how batty the left is getting in the current Lieberman-Lamont campaign. A Lieberman supporter, Davis has had an eye-opening experience with the response from Lamont supporters. Writing in the Opinion Journal, Davis says,
One Sunday morning on C-Span I debated Nation editor Katrina vanden Heuvel on the Lieberman versus Lamont race. Afterwards I received a series of emails--many of them in ALL CAPS (which often suggests the hyper-frenetic state of these extremist haters)--that were of the same stripe as the blog posts, and filled with the same level of personal hate. But the issue is not just emotional outbursts by these usually anonymous bloggers. A friend of mine just returned from Connecticut, where he had spoken on several occasions on behalf of Joe Lieberman. He happens to be a liberal antiwar Democrat, just as I am. He is also a lawyer. He told me that within a day of a Lamont event--where he asked the candidate some critical questions--some of his clients were blitzed with emails attacking him and threatening boycotts of their products if they did not drop him as their attorney. He has actually decided not to return to Connecticut for the primary today; he is fearful for his physical safety.
I would have never imagined Connecticut would find itself on the cutting edge of Stalinist-style political violence, but that's the trend. That kind of behavior will surely boomerang on Democratic candidates as staunch liberals like Lanny Davis rethink their support for candidates who stir up the frothing, biting left. If Lamont wins, could he count on now-burned Lieberman supporters like Davis?
More likely, they'll redouble their energy for an independent Lieberman candidacy. I know I will.

Down below, Van headed a post, Nutroots Go Stalinist in CT. Stalinist, indeed. It turns out that Lamont's father is: Corliss Lamont was a brilliant, very wealthy by inheritance, communist fellow-traveler through the ‘30’s and ‘40’s and ‘50’... [Read More]

Well CT does have its fair share of uber-leftie colleges starting with Yale.

Being a Protestant Southern boy, I can't say I agree with Joe on much, but his support for the war effort and national security has been outstanding...I often call him "the last good Democrat". I think he's gonna paste Lamont but good in the general election...I might even send a contribution.
BTW...with all of the Jew-hating crap being spewed on places like DailyKos and DemocraticUnderground, I'm wondering what your take on these events is here at Kesher Talk; do you think traditionally democratic-voting American Jews might reconsider their party preferences now? Or will it take Palestinian flags at the DNC convention to do that?

My anecdotal evidence says that Jewish votes are more in play than they used to be.
I just participated in a phone conference with bloggers with the NJDC, where I was assured that according to all polls Jews still vote heavily Democrat and the Republicans are not making inroads.
What to believe?
[VW comment: If you can't believe the NJDC when it says Jews are still voting for Democrats, who can you believe? It's not like the NJDC has any self-interest in the matter.]
