Kudos to 7-11
The 7-Eleven chain of gas-stations and convenience stores is thumbing its nose at Hugo Chavez, so please patronize 7-11 whenever you can:
7-Eleven Inc. dropped Venezuela-owned Citgo as its gasoline supplier after more than 20 years as part of a previously announced plan by the convenience store operator to launch its own brand of fuel. 7-Eleven officials said Wednesday that the decision was partlhttp://www.keshertalk.com/cgi-bin/mt.cgiy motivated by politics.Citgo Petroleum Corp. is a Houston-based subsidiary of Venezuela's state-run oil company and 7-Eleven is worried that anti-American comments made by Venezuelan President Hugo Chavez might prompt motorists to fill-up elsewhere.
Chavez has called President George W. Bush the devil and an alcoholic. The U.S. government has warned that Chavez is a destabilizing force in Latin America.
"Regardless of politics, we sympathize with many Americans' concern over derogatory comments about our country and its leadership recently made by Venezuela's president," said 7-Eleven spokeswoman Margaret Chabris. "Certainly Chavez's position and statements over the past year or so didn't tempt us to stay with Citgo," she added.

7-Eleven has since denied this. See my blog post about this, in the comments:

I buy gas at a Citgo on Main St. in Norwalk CT that undercuts competitors in the area by a nickel a gallon. Is Citgo treating it as a loss leader to suck up evil Yanki dollars? I don't know, but I go there as often as I can.

There is no doubt that Hugo Chavez is a bloviating Marxist hemorrhoid, and if a boycott of Citgo hurts him, that's a good thing. I certainly won't buy gas at a Citgo station.
But what about oil companies that get their oil from our "friends" in the Middle East? And, as this piece last year at Snopes.com points out, the iron laws of supply and demand dictate that some of our money is going to go to bad guys, whether in the Middle East, or Venezuela.
I don't have a solution, other than we use our military to take over the Saudi oil fields...Just kidding, but this is still more realistic than just proclaiming "we're addicted to foreign oil."
