Speaking of Doomsday: The Samson Strategy

Since we're in an apocalyptic mood today, try reading this. Writing in Jewsweek, Shimshon Ben-Yosef has a disturbing vision of a Jewish response to a massive attack on Israel. He pushes the Samson Strategy to the far shores of justice and horror, bringing down the temple not only on the Islamic attackers but also countries that abetted them. He writes,

The Muslim world must be convinced absolutely that even the most feeble attempt to fire even one weapon of mass destruction at the state of Israel will mean the instant eradication of every site where Muhammed, his disciples, and the various mullahs and imams throughout the twisted history of Islam every set down their feet and their foreheads in prayer and supplication. They will never pray there again without glowing. . .

To be fair, the same principle should apply to those non-Muslim nations who aid and abet those who seek the eradication of Israel. The message should be communicated, gently but clearly, that we will not allow the lesson of Vichy and Mussolini and Pope John and Stalin to be repeated in our time without using every resource in our possession to encourage collaboration- and appeasement-oriented regimes to think twice before serving as silent and encouraging accomplices to the mass murder of the Jewish nation. If that means that the Vatican or the Louvre or the Kremlin are incinerated, then so be it. So much the better reason for them to stop aiding and funding our would-be exterminators.

What about Turtle Bay, home of this institution?

The vision is nightmarish. Could it go down this way? I dare you to read and respond. I'm withholding editorial comment for the moment.

Keep me far away from any country Mr. Ben-Yosef sets his eyes upon.

The minute nukes walk into the discussion, reason walks out the door. Ben-Yosef's plan is proof.

For example:

And that's why the best use of Israel's presumed arsenal of nukes should be pointed not so much at the population centers of our enemies but at their symbolic centers.

Yes, Mecca. And Medina. Najaf and Qum. Mount Arafat and Baalbek. And, not to be neglected: Al-Aqsa and the Dome of the Rock on Jerusalem's Temple Mount.

These aren't military or economic targets. Hitting them wouldn't weaken an enemy's fighting ability. It would probably unify them.

In any case, jihad and anti-Israel attitudes aren't fueled by just "Islam", they're fueled by oil money. If someone plans to fly into an irrational homicidal/suicidal rage, they should at least try to make it an effective homicidal/suicidal rage. Hit the oil fields, all of them. Conventional weapons can do that, no one has to use nukes. Hitting these targets would cripple enemies near and far; it also makes them think, unlike the oft-used nuke-em-all strategy. Everybody threatens to destroy the world.

I assume that the purpose of this essay is to threaten. Threats are the most annoying strategy of all - if the threatener is just blowing hot air, it makes him/her look weak. If the threatener really does mean to destroy their enemy, threats give the enemy an effective warning and time to fight/flee.

Instead of making threats, Israel, America and everyone who has been attacked by Islamist terror states should unite to plan effective, quick and non-self destructive ways of dismantling enemy regimes. Israel's enemies are the enemies of most nations, worldwide. Israel and America should be making that clear.

Nuke the Vatican. Yeah, that'll show 'em.

Unserious.

[VW comment: "Nuke the Vatican" is fantastic name for a punk-rock band. Thanks for the idea.]

The Pope has been playing to the part of late.

"Indeed, the ability of the Jews to withstand the vastly larger oil-fueled Arab nations, and now the Persian one as well, is proof that the Muslim deity is inferior and false." (Shimshon Ben-Yosef)

And there I was, thinking it proved that the IDF had a load of weaponry and knew how to shoot straight with it all.

Sorry to post again, but I only just spotted this:

"So there can be no doubt that if the Muslims should ever get the bomb..."

What religion, I wonder, does he think they follow in Pakistan?

Where did Jewsweek find this nut?

Rob | September 6, 2006 12:25 PM

Nuke Dome of the Rock? The Dome of the Rock in Jerusalem? Nuke it? With Nuclear weapons?

Yeah...that'll show those muzzies.

Israel will nuke itself.

"We're crazy man....CRAZY!!1!"

[VW comment: Actually, a Daisy Cutter should do the trick nicely.]
