Totten's take on the NYC blogger dinner
Michael Totten posted his account and photos of the Labor Day dinner party. Pay no attention to that horrible photo of me. I don't really look like a flesh-eating zombie.

I can only assume Mary slipped him a bigger tip to get him to turn off the FEZ setting for her pictures.
Though Mt Rainier is better-looking than either of you.

This photo (taken, I think, by a waiter) avoids the FEZ look - it's all about the light.
Michael's shots were good, but in dim light, too heavy on the purple and yellows.
What's really amazing is that he was able to make Jersey City look good.

You're such a gentleman, Rob.
No, it's all about Michael using a picutre of me with a weird look on my face instead of one with a normal look on my face. I know he took more than one.

Judith,
On behalf of viewers of your flesh-eating zombie picture, I would like to thank you for not procreating. (joke!)
"In Lebanon, we covered entire villages with cluster bombs, what we did there was crazy and monstrous," testifies a commander in the Israel Defense Forces' MLRS (Multiple Launch Rocket System) unit.

And just so your readers know (I am aware that you can check not only email addresses but originating ISP details): while I have coincidentally just put up a post on my own blog referencing the same Ha'aretz article, the 'Rob' being so very ungentlemanly immediately above this is an impostor (note lack of URL, for one thing). I like to think you would spot the stylistic differences....

Just so your readers know, the 'Rob' who posted the preceding comment wasn't me. Though coincidentally I have just put up a post back on EKN referencing the same Ha'aretz article. Maybe I have an EKN tribute blogger?
Mary has helpfully supplied a more normal picture of you, though at the same time, one notes, also better of her than Michael's. Not so selfless....
Though actually the FEZ shot is not without a certain charm....

The Rob of the Haaretz link isn't you? How did the comment get through then?
Oh well, the IP reveals all.
mary | September 13, 2006 09:17 PM
Like 'Mary', 'Rob' is a not uncommon name. There seem to be a number of Robs commenting elsewhere on KT, and there's only one of me. The Ha'aretz link comment is the only one so far where I wondered whether somebody was out to make trouble (hey, I can do that for myself). Maybe it's just a coincidence. One of the blogs I visit sometimes has at least three regular Robs; where identification by our links is inconvenient we use more specific descriptors, in my case EineKleineRob. I suppose if I do that and somebody else does the same I'll know it's deliberate.
FWIW I rarely if ever post references in comments which are completely unrelated to the main thread: I post them back home on EKN instead and let people come to me. Seems more polite. And I have no idea whether Judith has procreated/intends to procreate, nor do I care: even as a joke. I like to think I wouldn't have made that 'joke' even on my own blog (unless there was some context to it I can't quite imagine). I certainly wouldn't post something like that on Judith's own turf.
Probably it's all rubbish and there's just another Rob with a dodgy sense of humour who thinks you won't already have read the Ha'aretz article.

Wow, thanks for the very detailed and in-depth analysis of evil Rob. I hadn't thought of all those alternatives, it's like you know what he's thinking.
..and I guess I was wrong about the IP revealing all. Other bloggers have noticed that trolls use alternate IPs.
I've also seen trolls masquerading as regular, friendly commenters. I've just never seen a troll pretend to be a..ummm. unfriendly commenter. Why would someone do that?
mary | September 14, 2006 10:19 AM
Again, sorry to dwell on this matter, but that Rob is not me.
I don't know if I'm being paranoid, or just plain silly, but I want the world to know that he's an imposter. It would be devastating to the readers of this blog to think otherwise. I don't want to toot my own horn or anything, but I am a prominent member of the international community. I have a blog called: einekleinenichtmusik.blogspot.com/ that has been read by at least a dozen people. I have a responsibility towards my fellow world citizens to stand up to tyranny and my own flatulence. Although it is true I have gastrointestinal problems, that should not diminish my standing on the world stage.
Thank you, and God Bless America.
Rob | September 14, 2006 10:30 AM
Mary - you may well ask. Comment between yours and mine, of course, by Bizarro-Rob troll.
