Chappaquiddick Revisited
Unfortunately for the Democratic Party and its boosters in the MSM, the Foley scandal didn't work out quite as planned. The attempts to force Speaker of the House Rep. Dennis Hastert to resign have fallen flat and the American people have already moved on to greener pastures.
Meanwhile, the Dems have their own dirty laundry to contend with in the form of Dirty Harry Reid. Not to mention that grand statesman of the Democratic Party, Massachusetts Senator Edward Kennedy, whose past, shall we say, indiscretion, has recently reared its ugly head.
Sen. Kennedy was in Connecticut last week to help raise money for Diane Farrell's 4th Congressional District campaign. It just so happens Farrell's was one of the more strident voices calling for Hastert's resignation. But Republican Rep. Christopher Shays had just about enough of his opponent's hypocrisy and according to the Hartford Courant, he actually mentioned the unmentionable---Chappaquiddick that is:
"We don't know what he has or hasn't done," Shays said of Hastert. "But she had a fundraiser for Sen. Kennedy, and we know what he did."
Then Shays elaborated:
"I know the speaker didn't go over a bridge and leave a young person in the water, and then have a press conference the next day," said Shays, R-4th District, referring to the 1969 incident in which the Massachusetts Democrat drove a car that plunged into the water and a young campaign worker died. "Dennis Hastert didn't kill anybody," he addedAs Lance deHaven-Smith, professor of public policy at Florida State University, put it,
"Democrats need to be careful...this could backfire on them."
Indeed.

False analogy. Sen. Kennedy doesn't go around claiming to defend family values. Speaker Hastert failed to do his job as speaker and leader of the Republican majority, by protecting a pedophile: Chappaquidick involved nothing similar.

Given the choice what would you do: protect a pedophile, or a killer?

The thing is, Foley wasn't a pedophile. The page he shared inappropriate e-mails with was 18, which is hardly a child. Foley may have been gay and a creep, but neither are crimes last I checked.
As for Kennedy not going around defending family values, that's for sure! But don't you think killing someone and then trying to cover it up qualifies one for resignation (let alone jail time)? Or does that only apply to Repubs?
That's the point.

That's right, Jeffrey. Foley committed the only moral failing that is a felony in the Democratic playbook. Hypocrisy. Ted Kennedy may have wantonly and callously left a young woman to die while he figured out how to protect his own butt, but, hey, at least he is not a hypocrite.
