The return of Charlotte Kates
Jewlicious posts an email from a woman who went to college with sociopathic culture-shopping chameleon Charlotte Kates, who was such a scary advocate for the Palestinian cause that the Arab students in her ISM chapter left and formed a rival chapter because they didn't want to be associated with her, causing the annual conference to be moved from Rutgers to Ohio State. Kates was videoed at Rutgers three years ago by Evan Coyne Maloney (she appears halfway and 2/3 of the way through), in what may be the first amateur blogger protest video where you film aggressive protestors surrounding and threatening you and trying to break your camera, and you get on Fox News. (Of course, everyone does that now, but Evan pioneered it.)
We knew she had been into Scientology before she found true meaning in defending suicide bombings. We didn't know the rest until now:
I remember hearing all this yelling and I was like, “oh it’s gotta be some angry black brothas..” I looked outside and low ‘n behold iz Palestinian supporters (mostly who are white kids). In fact, it reminded me that I went to college w/a girl named Charlotte ___ , an absolute genius ( perfect scores on her SATs and LSATS). We were on student government together at Douglass. Like many middle/upper white class white kids with no culture or tradition, she picked a new identity every year out of guilt of being a part of the majority. In ‘97 she was scientologist, in ‘99 she was gay, in ‘00 she was Latina w/an accent, golden hoop earrings and a curious spray on tan, and in ‘01, before I left for Australia, when zionism = racism on our college campus, my last words to Charlotte were, “Charlotte, it’s okay to hate politics, and criticize politicians..but don’t hate this country and don’t hate this country’s people. Go visit, go see how amazing it is. ” She never wrote another email to me again and last I heard she went to law school..lo and behold, the maniacal voice behind the microphone is none other than pasty white nutball herself….Then follows video footage of Charlotte doing her ultra-radical revolutionary anti-imperialist anti-Zionist thang.
Anyway, compare the two videos. Has this woman changed one iota in three years? Maybe she's a life-sized audioanimatronic figure.
Former NYTimes Mideast bureau chief Chris Hedges (who looks like Kates' evil twin) wrote a glowing lifestyle piece about Miz Charlotte for the paper. Since he is known to be extremely anti-Israel and anti-Iraq War, it was a perfect pairing. Then-Rutgers student Steve Silver fisked it well.
Well, it's amusing to have the Charlotte Kates robot back among us, and now that everyone videos protest rallies, we can look forward to lots of footage of her haranguing the same tiny crowds as before.

Chris Hedges -- browsed his War... Gives Us Meaning. He writes with such nausea (as Sartre might have said). He may be sickened and disheartened at what he's seen, but he's no warrior.
