About Kesher Talk

  • "Kesher" means "connection" in Hebrew. The banner image is the mosaic floor of a 6th c. synagogue in Jericho, showing a menorah flanked by a shofar and lulav; the inscription reads "Shalom Al Yisrael." (This synagogue was destroyed by Arab vandals a few years ago. The condition of the mosaic floor is unknown.)

Houellebecq, Azure, and Me

You may be interested in Houellebecq's take on the ills of Western civilization, an oft-discussed topic on this site. If so, check out his novel The Elementary Particles, which has to stand beside American Psycho as one of the best pieces of transgressive literature ever written. Azure also includes other articles on more Jewish and Israeli related topics, including a review of Israeli novelist Amos Oz's new book. Check it out.

Just started your article, Benjamin. It seems to share the perspective Robert Bork offers in Slouching Toward Gomorrah. I will continue reading with interest.

Interesting piece.

When you say "crosses the line of literature", do you mean it is literature, or that it's no longer literature?
