If Rep. Mark Foley was a Democrat . . . .
[ UPDATE: Add Mel Reynolds to the list. ]
The People's Cube compiled a table which drives home the point:

The Cube goes on to explain the Democrats' evolutionary advantage over the Republicans. Read the rest to learn what that is.
Sultan Knish on the top 10 things Democrats would be saying if Rep. Mark Foley was a Democrat:
10. Character doesn't matter9. A politician's sex life is his own buisness. What's your problem with it anyway, are you a homophobe?
8. While tens of thousands are dying in Iraq, we're focusing on some supposed emails between consenting adults.
7. We voted against the pedophilia, before we voted for the pedophilia.
6. The whole thing is a vast right wing conspiracy.
5. If she had been a female intern, no one would have thought twice about it.
4. Just like the Chandra Levy case, this is sensationalistic media coverage meant to victimize a Democrat.
3. When will the Religious Right finally stop persecuting same-sex couples?
2. NO WAR FOR OIL!!! NO WAR FOR OIL!!! NO WAR FOR OIL!!!
1. He really thought he was IM'ing Cindy Sheehan.

When democrats get caught they just smirk, read self-righteous speeches for the cameras and pretty much say, "you can't make me leave."
When their demographic is conservative enough, as with Gary Condit, they can wind up paying for it at the polls but with MA Democrats, nothing seems to touch them.

I'm not going to offer much of a defense for these folks, except to say that there is one huge difference between what they've done and what Mark Foley has done, in that nothing they've done involves children. Surely you're not going to compare Bill Clinton's consensual affair with an adult woman to Mark Foley's imposition of himself upon minors?
As for Robert Byrd, his time in the KKK was before I was even born and he has apologized for it many times, so I'm not going to hold it against him. I'm much more concerned about the racists who are in office now, most of whom belong to the Republican Party.

I think Gerry Studs actually had s*x with an underage page, all Foley did was IM them. And the pages in question were right on the edge of the age of consent, some over, hardly ""children." Not that soliciting teens is okay, but it's a far cry from preying on children.
And Bill, of course did commit a number of s*xual acts with Monica. In the Oval Office. While he was president. I didn't mind so much him having a piece of ass on the side, but he was not discreet and he mixed work and play, which shows a disquieting confusion about appropriate boundaries.
And Foley never drowned one of his employees.
Racists .... Bush has appointed more people of color and women to higher offices in his administration than any other president. The Dems are the ones making racist jokes about any black who dares to be a Republican. And when they aren't doing that they are making racist jokes about female conservative pundits of color.
But please tell me your examples of racism in the current Republican Party.

And not just Monica.
Remember Katherine Willey, whom he pawed when she came to ask for a job because she and her husband were in dire financial straits, only to learn afterwards that her husband had committed suicide at the time he was pawing her.
And then, when she got confessional about it, Clinton and his team sicced their private investigator on her to hassle her and dig up dirt. Remember Anthony Pellicano, Clinton's main man, now under indictment on a 110-count federal racketeering charge in LA.
Remember Juanita Broderick?
