About Kesher Talk

  • "Kesher" means "connection" in Hebrew. The banner image is the mosaic floor of a 6th c. synagogue in Jericho, showing a menorah flanked by a shofar and lulav; the inscription reads "Shalom Al Yisrael." (This synagogue was destroyed by Arab vandals a few years ago. The condition of the mosaic floor is unknown.)

More Manly Virtues

It seems I'm not the only lady blogger who thought Robert Jensen's commentary decrying the supposed evils of manhood was not only ridiculous, but suggested a far from desirable outcome. Desolving masculinity, that is.

Fausta accurately labels Jensen a "wuss" and points out the indisputable fact that, much to feminists' horror, "men like to protect women and women like that."

Meanwhile, Atlas calls the idea of a "feminized man...repulsive" and instead, wants her "some Robert Mitchum." I couldn't agree more. Love the sexy still she posted of Mr. Mitchum and a curvy lady friend.

Seeing as they would be on the receiving end of Jensen's proposal to do away with masculinity as we know it, the fellas have chimed in as well.

Shrinkwrapped delves into Jensen's psyche (scary thought) and ties his article in to "the radical feminist notion that gender is a social construct," as well as the left's overall obsession with "passivity."

And yesterday, Rush Limbaugh, accompanied by much chuckling, read segments of Jensen's article on his show. He labeled Jensen a "male lesbian," which is strangely, the most accurate descripion I've heard thus far.

The really frightening, but sadly not surprising, part is that Jensen is a journalism professor at the University of Texas.

Mammas, don't let your sons grow up to be journalism professors...

Well, if Rush says so...

Actually I think that men who get all bent out of shape at the mere mention of a challenge to cultural norms are kind of... wimpy - oh yeah, and women too, to be fair.

In any case some of us women would prefer not to need protection by men from men in the first place, and in the case of an actual urgent need of protection, would be glad to accept it from whoever was around to offer it.

Besides - I challenge your premise. If women *really* believed in and wanted men to protect them, they should vastly prefer male babysitters and childcare providers to provide protection for their daughters (and sons).

Jensen has much more disturbing ideology than gender-subversion (whihc doesn't bother me - I guess I'm the liberal on this blog....) - Jensen is one of the most anti-Western culture professors in the country. Just google his name and you'll see. I'd rather pile on him for that.

I am happy to be protected by anyone who wants to protect me.....
