(Pictures of) Scary Wolves Frighten Adults in Greenwich
The school board of Greenwich, Conn., takes seriously its mandate to raise its students as gentle, peace-loving, Gaia worshippers who know that war is bad for children, non-Caucasians, and other beautiful living things. With that in mind, the board has decided to not return to an elementary school a historical mural that had been removed for cleaning. According to the Greenwich Time,
The whole thing should be symbolic to the community," Board of Education Chairman Colleen Giambo said. The old plans called for the placement of "The Life and Times of General Israel Putnam of Connecticut," a mural that had hung in the old school building for decades, in the new school, which is set to open in the fall of 2007.
Painted by James Henry Daugherty of Weston for the Works Progress Administration in 1935, the mural depicts Putnam, Greenwich's war hero, in the midst of battles and tussles with Native Americans, with prominent knives and guns as well as snarling wolves.
Instead of going to a new school, the mural will remain at the Greenwich Library. There, presumably, adults run the risk of violent rage based on exposure to the mural -- I'll have to check it out this weekend. So far, my visits to the Greenwich Library have been peaceful, even when taking heavy-metal CDs from the fantastic music collection there.
The mural's weapons didn't seem to cause violence or even mean thoughts against snarling wolves in the 60 years it decorated the old school. But in 2006, correct modes of thinking must be served, so the mural had to go. Perhaps some moonbats feared that the reference to old Israel Putnam could be construed as Zionist propaganda, and that certainly can't be tolerated. Said the Time,
After the restoration, many parents and educators got an up-close look at the mural and began to question whether it belonged in an elementary school where violence is strictly prohibited.
Earth to Greenwich: it's a drawing! Following that line of reasoning, the dollar bill should be prohibited because it celebrates that slave-owning warmonger, George Washington.
The story refers to a new mural for the school. What sort of images might it reflect? I'm still thinking about my suggestion. I'm open to ideas from KT's imaginative readers.

Such poppycock! It just goes to show how shallow we have become. All over a mural that hasn't hurt anyone !

Maybe something like the EU currency, which is decorated with pictures of structures that never existed and never will exist.

Don't give them any ideas, that could be the inspiration for a new mural: a revolutionary cadre of Connecticut moms valiantly erase America's colonialist, slave-owning history, replacing all images of slave owning founding fathers with wolf-hugging gaia worshippers.
