"My Name is Rachel Corrie": handing out flyers outside the theater
[ Welcome LGF readers. If you want to see some serious propaganda by the producers of this play, go here. ]
Below is the report about handing out flyers on opening night of "My Name is Rachel Corrie" in NYC. (More about the controversy surrounding the play.) The action seems to have been very successful. They are handing out this flyer every evening the play is showing.

(I have been asked to remove the report of the leafletting. i would appreciate no snarky comments about this - I assume they have their reasons and I respect them. In fact, snarky comments will be deleted. I am authorized to add that the leafletting was organized with the assistance of Stand With Us and The Israel Project.)

No one was handing out the classic lgf pix?
Bah.

Let me get this straight:
Talking to people about controversial topics, treating them respectfully, like adults who can think when given well documented information.
It'll never catch on...
Seriously, well done! This is a classy and mature way to bring attention to the topic. What a great example to set for others (on both sides of the various issues) on how to reach out and to influence.
Thank you.

Judith, Thank you for all you have done. Maybe it will help to motivate others to take a public stand against the radical islamists.

Someone, the emphasis was on tasteful and understated. Some even felt that this flyer was too incendiary.
Judith | October 18, 2006 11:54 PM
More flies with honey and all that, but *she* was the incendiary one. That she wanted peace is quite doubtful... And legitimizing Rickman's lies is at best a waste, at worst actively harmful.
Incidentally, what is this thing that tracked back here?

I'm glad to see Rachel Levy remembered. She was murdered in a bombing of a supermarket and the MSM ignored her, prefering to feature the name of the killer, one of the first female suicide bombers.
Also murdered in that attack was Chaim Smadar. Smadar was a security guard who normally worked at a school, that was closed for Passover, so he decided to pick up some extra cash by guarding the supermarket. Smadar, who was born in Tunis and was a native speaker of Arabic, heard the bomber warn an Arab woman who was selling herbs outside the market. He approached her, and in an act of selfless courage stopped her from entering the market with his own body.

Really nice work. Judith, I would have liked to hand out the LGF pix myself, or at least make more explicit the fact that people write plays about the defenders and enablers of terrorism while no one does so about their victims. But. Given the audience, I think these folks did a great job, and probably accomplished a great deal by being subtle and as non-confrontational as possible. If they thought it was some kind of Zionist propaganda they would simply have walked away.
But we live in a sick, sick world if people do not see how evil this is.

I want to clarify that I didn't design the poster, and I haven't handed out flyers yet, although I plan to. I just publicized the effort.
Judith | October 19, 2006 03:33 AM
It's a shame you have to mollycoddle people with facts like this. It's like having to put life-saving medicine into ice cream so a combative little child will consume it.
My approach would have included a "part 2" to your handout that would have been a little more ... rude.
Eris I Dysnomia | October 19, 2006 08:43 AM
Great work! I actually work 5 minutes from the Minetta Lane Theater but have studiosuly avoided walking past it until the play will be gone in November. I am sorry to read that one of my favorite actresses Laura Linney was there.

i am absolutely behind you 100%, but it must be terribly difficult dealing with folks that have jettisoned rationality and reason...

I can only hope that some of the people who accepted your flyers could see the truth.
Kenneth S. Besig | October 19, 2006 10:51 AM
Can I just say that seeing that poster was so uplifting to me. I get so down sometimes about the unfair treatment of the Jews by so many narrowminded liberals and media types. Awesome, awesome work. I only wish I could be there to help hand out fliers!

These were the identical tactics used when My name is Rachel Corrie premiered in London.
StandwithUs produced this excellent leaflet especially for us.
Good to see it is continuing to be a useful tool
StandWithUs posters and leaflets on their website are an invaluable resource

Carry on!!
Proud to be here and read the post.
None of this absolute propaganda can be allowed to go unchallenged.
Ms. Corrie was lead astray to embrace just what HAMAS stands for by her actions. At 23 however, she was perfectly old enough to discern the realities and is responsible for her end.
That is sad, but a fact. Her death in glorifiying and being useful as a tool to further the actions of those to whom israel a waqf that can never be negotiated away by man made her life a sad and duped story...one certainly not fit for this episode.
We should never allow these people to have the high ground... their purpose is by the purposeful death of the innocent to enforce their belief in god, no one walking around america can ever be allowed to avoid this absolute truth
epaminondas | October 19, 2006 07:40 PM
Good work!
Rachel Corrie was a terror-tunnel protecting scumbag. A pox on her memory.
Jheka | October 21, 2006 01:01 AM
I'm excited to see the play and be able to discuss the issues afterwards. It must be a great play to stir up so much passion and debate. Perhaps that is why Rachel Corrie has become an inspiration to so many people. She stood up against injustice in a peaceful non violent way. I understand everyone on this site feels that she was in the wrong, but she had the courage to act on her beliefs. And as for the play, it is just one point of view. If you have another I would encourage you to write a play yourself.
