Jews Behaving Atrociously in Crown Heights
Some kind of vandalism or riot hit the Chabad headquarters in Crown Heights, Brooklyn, earlier this week, but I can't figure out who was doing what from this article, which comes with loads of photos. It sounds like some kind of internicine brawl based on theological matters.
This blog entry provides some more details, although the case remains foggy. Contributing factors include out-of-town visitors, imbibing of mind-altering refreshments -- it sounds like a Chabad version of Rush Week at a southern university.

Chabad.info is not the right source. What happened was the international shluchim were in town for a conference. After a gala banquet that marked the end of the conference, a few hundred shluchim went to 770 for a Farbrengen (chassidic gathering). At the time there were 20 guys from tzfat, who are what we call 'meshchistim', and tend to get violent for lack of anything better to do. They didn't like the presence of the shluchim, so they began chanting 'Yechi' so as to bother them, when that didn't work they launched bombs in the form of food and books and a bench even hit a young shaliach who was injured in his legs. Now, the blogs are reporting this as a reciprocal fight, but anyone in his right mind can see that a few hundred older rabbis looking to sit in 770 with old friends once a year have no reason to attack 20 Israeli guys. So it wasn't a 'Fight', it was an attack on part of young meshichistim, some of whom were rightfully arrested, and people are trying to have them shipped back to Israel. After the events, some shluchim tore down the 'Yechi' sign which really doesn't belong in 770, but some of the Israeli guys put it back on.
I heard this first hand from relatives who were at the scene, having gone there to hear stories from shluchim, sing and have a lechaim.

basically it's the continuing struggle for control of 770 between the old guard chabad rabbonim and some of the younger mesichtim who they can't seem to control

Haredi cult wackjobs, who knew? While I agree with little that the reform movement does, at least they do it peacefully.
