The MTW Conference: in the audience
Hertzliya, Israel, December 17-18, 2006.
All my posts about the conference are collected here, also links to other blogs writing about the conference.
Richard Landes gazes upon his creation.
Brett Schorr, conference manager extraordinaire, unflappable, and a really nice guy.

Questions and comments from Don Radlauer . . . Allison Kaplan-Sommer.

What were they thinking?

If you don't recognize this guy, it's Svi Mazel.
And if you don't recognize the name . . . . as Israel's ambassador to Sweden three years ago he forcefully expressed his opinion about some political art (and Sharon backed him up, something I can't imagine Olmert doing). (Kesher Talk's roundup of responses to the incident here and here and here.) Aussie Dave and I went up to him during a break and told him how much we had appreciated his actions and how we had approvingly blogged about it at the time.
(I was literally using this camera for the first time, so apologies for excreble quality.) ( I later found out it had a setting for flourescent lighting - who knew?)

That's why you have to study the manual before you begin.
What did you get, btw.

Judith, olmert's party won less than 1/4 of the vote in the March elections. That means that he has no mandate from the people. And how did olmert's party get even that much of the vote?? Sharon had the aura of the MAN ON THE WHITE HORSE. Some people, mostly not very educated [unaware of the meaning of the Man on the White Horse concept in political science and history], naively saw Sharon as capable of solving all problems, especially in the security/defense area. When Sharon left office as he did --with the sympathy for him as a sick man-- Sharon's aura glided over to olmert who took over for Sharon. Today, olmert's party would get half the vote in new elections that it got in March. Not only is everything that he does disgusting, but he has been involved in so many crooked deals, that few want him to stay in office, whether the voter is "left," "right," or "center." People are hoping that he'll be out of our lives as soon as possible. He is not our leader. He simply holds office, because after the election he was able to build a coalition of fellow opportunist politicians. It's a shame.
