About Kesher Talk

  • "Kesher" means "connection" in Hebrew. The banner image is the mosaic floor of a 6th c. synagogue in Jericho, showing a menorah flanked by a shofar and lulav; the inscription reads "Shalom Al Yisrael." (This synagogue was destroyed by Arab vandals a few years ago. The condition of the mosaic floor is unknown.)

The MTW Conference: Unofficial activities

MTWlbanner.jpg

Hertzliya, Israel, December 17-18, 2006.

All my posts about the conference are collected here, also links to other blogs writing about the conference.

You are probably all waiting to hear about the actual panels, but that's harder to write about than the socializing, where I can just post photos with cute captions.

Idan photographed all the bloggers he could round up, with his hugely professional camera: Savtadotty, Lisa Goldman in back between two women I don't know (is one of them Liza?), Rinat, Mary, me, Richard Landes, Nidra Poller, Michael Totten, Yael (?), Aussie Dave, Allison Kaplan Sommer, Richard Fernandez

Sol and Mary at a bar where we had dinner. (This was the expedition to the marina to find non-kosher meat. What is "steak entrecote" anyway?)

She's Turkish and they were bemused by her bias against the Kurds. Really. That's what most of that conversation was about.

All roving Middle East correspondent bloggers must wear black leather jackets, it says so here in the manual.

(Michael Totten looks more dissipated every time I see him, but once he's home with his wife and some good old American food in him, I bet he perks right up.)

What is "steak entrecote" anyway?)

Steak cut from between the 9th and 11th ribs of beef.
And it is a kosher cut of meat. From a prime animal both tender and delicious.

That must be why it shows up on all those Israeli menues. But that restaurant wasn't kosher.

Maybe that's why Solomonia described his steak as one of the best he's had in some time :-)

That steak kicked ass. (I had the filet)
