2 out of the 24 of '24'
'24' started off mid-crisis last night in its two-hour ad-soaked kick-off, instead of building up to a threat. Bombs are exploding in major cities, the government is befuddled and/or aggressive, CTU is bickering.
Jack is back. Blogs4Bauer has it all.
The plot structure is compelling, but a lot of character elements feel derivative. You've got the greasy long-haired teen causing trouble, the loving but bickering anti-terror couple (Bill and Karen, replacing the murdered Tony and Michelle, a big plot mistake from last year), the floundering president and his devious advisor.
Here's what missing and should turn up in a couple of hours:
1. Jack's daughter Kim, irate and sexy and in trouble
2. A mole within CTU
3. A plot against the president (Wayne Palmer, a terrible plot device since he can't replace brother David and lacks any logic as the president given past seasons)
4. People hiding in dark hallways and closets at CTU calling each other on their cellphones to do technical stuff without alertingt their superiors
5. People getting arrested by CTU security guards, who wear uniforms that look llike cast-offs from "Star Trek: The Musical"
6. And this is a good element from seasons past: Eric, the dour and loyal Secret Service agent
Jack badly needs a sidekick, with Tony long gone. Who's up for that suicidal task?
