Cinnamon Stillwell on Indians: Interview with David Yeagley at BadEagle.com
In my post-9/11 political travels on the right, I've often gravitated towards others I see as minority Republicans and/or conservatives in their respective environments. In my own case, it's being right-of-center in San Francisco and a politically conservative Jewish woman. But whether it be Jewish, Black, Asian or Hispanic Republicans or even French Neocons, we all have in common communities that typically lean leftward or are at least predominantly Democrat.
On this note, I made the acquaintance some time ago of self-described American Indian patriot David Yeagley. Both of us have written for Frontpagemag.com and David's articles on conservativism and the Indian community, not to mention some liberals' attempts to erase Indian mascots and names from the American landscape (in the name of political correctness), really got my attention. He is the only Indian writer I have run across espousing such political viewponts and his website, BadEagle.com, and its extensive forums, have become a regular destination.
So it was with great pleasure that I recently consented to be interviewed for BadEagle.com. It's part of a series of interviews with conservative thinkers, Ann Coulter and Michael Barone among them, on issues pertaining to Indians. None of us claim to be experts on the subject, but the point is to provide off-the-cuff commentary from non-Indians for the benefit of Indian readers. And I learned a lot myself in the process.
Titled "Cinnamon Stillwell on Indians," the interview can be found on the Bad Eagle homepage by scrolling down about halfway and it's also posted in the Bad Eagle forums with comments from readers, including my own. Feel free to take part in the conversation (via registration) if so inclined.
Update: Interesting post over at Composite Drawlings on the Bad Eagle interview - The Importance of Carrying On One's Culture.

In which Ms. Stillwell writes "...I tend to promote assimilation over separation."
Except when it comes to partition, the 'separation fence' and, without doubt, Palestinians.

Yes, Alan, and we all remember that horrible day when Sioux tribesmen sneaked across the Bay Bridge and blew up the Starbucks in Embarcadero Center killing dozens of urbane San Franciscans. What an unmitigated schmuck you must be.
C,
David Y. is one of my favorites.
What a great honor to be interviewed by him.

Indians...
On the few occasions in the last years when I was asked a question about them, my answer has consistently been, "Sorry, I can't answer that. I can't talk about that. I can't trust myself to speak on that".
This subject may be far away from me physically, but it's near to me (to all of us Jews, I'd say) mentally. Hardly a day goes by that I don't see the history of the Native Americans mentioned in connection to what's going on here in Israel.
The critics of Zionism say we are to the "Palestinians" as the newcomers from the Old World were to the Native Americans. I'm not short of responses to that (among which is turning it around to make us the analogs of the Native Americans in our region). But, owing to the intensity of these exchanges, and the clash of narratives, where you can easily see every side recruiting history to his own end, I don't trust myself to be able to voice a fair opinion on the American Indian issue to any degree.
Every time I feel like saying something on the subject, something that constitutes a judgment, I stop myself, saying, "You're exhibiting the same unfairness toward them (one of the two sides) as the anti-Zionists do to your side". Or saying, "This statement, with a few names changed, is what the anti-Zionists say against you".
That was a vent. I don't do that a lot in comments on other people's blogs, but this is a subject I think worthy of it.

Zionist,
The Pali and Israeli economies were integrating prior to Stupifada II.
The Stupidstinians are opressing themselves.
