Joseph Massad and Tanya Reinhart at "End Israel Apartheid Week"
The final installment of Pamela Hall's report from the trenches of the movement to delegitimize Israel. Read on to see (Chomsky protegee) Tanya Reinhart protest to Joseph Massad that Israel isn't racist, and Joseph Massad shut her down.

CHALLENGING ISRAELI APARTHEID (PDF)
These were our speakers at St. Mary’s Episcopal Church on W. 126th St. In Manhattan:
Joseph Massad, associate professor of Middle East studies, Columbia University
Tanya Reinhart, professor emeritus, Tel Aviv University.
Such a lovely old church. Built when this was farmland in the 1830’s, I think. But, what a night. Listening to the hate-speech that Massad is “preaching to the choir”. It is so offensisve. And sadly, the Rector of St. Mary’s was way too happy to welcome this hate-monger into G-d’s house. Disturbing and disgusting. Certainly another example of the leftists and their social justice take-over of the church.
We were greeted with the usual pot-pouri of pamphlets as we entered the sanctuary. Support for the illegals and open-borders; flyers for community leftie causes and the ant-Israel crowd and tonight we got “Truman Capote” as our Marxist. Looking like Lenin he had Capote’s tweetie-bird delivery. It certainly added to carnivale atmosphere of The Workers Party Newspapers for sale, all manner of books detailing the Iraq fiasco perspective and just before we walked up the aisle to our pew seats: On sale were buttons and pins and necklaces of all stripes and colors pushing the cause dujour.
A couple of our speakers from Thursday night are present this evening (organizing and moderating)and I thought our lovely Marxist-gal, Charlotte Kates was a no-show again. However, she arrived late into the speeches and stood in the back. (Where ya been, Char?)
[ Judith says: Charlotte is beyond being a Marxist, she is a stone Stalinist. ]
To be brief, since we all know the routine. Massad and Reinhart did the looping dance of the party-line ad nauseum . I wish I could say I paid attention. I don’t know how these people do it. How do they listen to this stuff over and over again. Not a new thought gets spoken; just the propagandist’s tool …the “overandoverandover“- AGAIN of the same talking points; the indoctrinal-loop. These people have to be brain-dead.
FYI - Massad is a frigging bore. He read from notes and seemed to as bored as I was. I know he’s the Columbia stooge who told the student she couldn’t be Jewish because she doesn’t have brown-eyes, but the reality that these people are instructors in our universities makes me even more grateful whenever these anarchists are outed as Massad has been.
His basic stance is VERY anti-West, condones violence and drew applause from ‘the choir’ when he reminded everyone that it is up to Israel to recognize Palestine’s right to be a state. When they do the violence will end and Hamas will make nice. He spoke (read) from his notes for way too long. Racist, racist, money, racist, bad United States, money, bad, bad Israel, etcetcetc…
Next up was a tediously MOUSEY woman, Tanya Reinhart. She’s Jewish, an ex-Israel iwho teaches in Europe somewhere…..LINGUISTICS again…. Her English is heavily accented, she’s a very, very quiet speaker who doesn’t know how to use a microphone and was BORING as jack-sh#t.
Guess you can figure she’s not a supporter of Israel; guess that’s why she left. The only interesting exchange between her and Massad was very late in the Q and A when she actually disgreed with Massad and said Israel is not racist but since he’s the polar opposite of her mousiness, Mr. Massad’s response back was quick and arrogant as he denounced her one brief moment of ‘defending’ Israel.
Our crowd got one question in (they never answer them) and the rest of the boring and VERY long Q and A was all from their people. It was such a RELIEF to have it all come to an end.
I now know “how the other half lives” and I must remember this evening whenever I even toy with the idea that I might sit-in on another indoctrination fest because I am SO-O-O BORED!!.
Still, I’m glad we all did this as I do think we annoyed them enough to make it all worth it.
Shalom,
Pamela
