Back when Israel was fashionable

Barbra Streisand interviews Golda Meir at some Hollywood tribute to Israel on its 30th anniversary in 1978. Then Barbra gives Hatikvah the Streisand diva treatment. This was not too long after Munich and Entebbe, and before Oslo, and the international demonization of Israel was gathering force but hadn't yet gone mainstream. Palestinian claims were either invisible or stigmatized by the violent actions taken to achieve them. Can you imagine this gala happening today?

Wow! Thanks Judith for posting this.

What a great woman she was; Golda, not Barbara.
Nothing really has changed with Israel then and now yet this tribute would be absolutely unthinkable today. Even if some A-list celebraties wanted to do something like this today, they would not have the courage to undertake it. Too many American Jews are fair weather friends to Israel. When their support is needed the most, like today, they withdraw their support or even side with the Islamicfascists and their 5th column in the West.

I wonder what Golda would make of Barbara and her buddies today?
