A Thumping Good Time at KinkyJews Lit Event
KinkyJews packed the house last night at the KGB Bar on E. 4th Street for its Jewish lit-erotica readings. I arrived before the 7:30 start time and found the first reading already in progress (what, a Jewish event that starts on time? These people are efficient). I stayed for the first half, owing to my unfortunate status as a slave to suburban train schedules, and thoroughly enjoyed myself.
The readings had a mix of themes -- a little of this, a bit more of that, if you get my drift. Cute-as-a-button writer Ronnie Koenig won the best reception while I was there with her spirited reading of "Flowers and Lollipops, Or Why I am the Most Popular Person at my Gynecologist's Office."
Lisa Beth Kovitz, reading from the sequel to her book "The Tuesday Erotic Club," had one of the most memorable lines of the evening, in a story about a women's writers group, when she said, "What is the point of a shy fantasy?"
The head honcho of KinkyJews said the group now has 2,000 members with a full slate of activities coming up, including the New York premiere of the Hebrew-language film Assraelis.
