Gathering of Eagles

[ UPDATE: More coverage from Hot Air, including interviews with vets and other ralliers. Estimates are that the Eagles outnumbered the antiwar folks 3-to-1. ]

Michelle Malkin has massive coverage of the Gathering of Eagles rally yesterday in Washington DC. Keep checking back there for more.

Gates of Vienna reports that one of the antiwar groups announced it would vandalize the Vietnam Veterans Memorial. So a large group of veterans and friends surrounded it and didn't let any antiwar demonstrators through.

[ UPDATE: A report from across the pond at Harry's Place. ]

Email report from a friend:

Went to the big support rally Sat but unfortunately due to flight delays didn't arrive until noon. Of all the times nature offers icy and freezing conditions, it had to be the day before the biggest support rally since Vietnam!

Despite missing the beginning the it was well worth the day. When I arrived at the area near the Vietnam memorial I saw so many American flags, veterans and veteran supporters spread out all over the place. It was a lovely sight to see!

I hooked up with a friend who had flown on a different airline and was able to arrive much earlier. On the way down she ran into a group of 11 NYC veterans who took her under their wings and kept her company. We all spent the rest of the day walking to the various memorials along with thousand of other vets and supporters. I noticed a common characteristic among vets, even when meeting veterans who are strangers, they always treat one another as if they were long-life friends. By the time I had arrived the Che People were making their way across the bridge towards the Pentagon. Only a few past moonbats passing by.

We ended up having a St. Patricks's day beer with cornbeef and cabbage. Then spent six hours at the airport because of flight delays; apparently some 15,000 flights were cancelled the day before and not enough crew to get back on schedule.

The Park Service estimated Gathering of Eagles at about 30,000. If not for the flight delays and cancellations the day before, I imagine the crowd would have been in greater number.

Given the level of energy at yesterdays rally and the fact that many Americans are fed up with the Left, there could possibly be a Gathering of Eagles 2.

What a bunch of sad embittered losers.

And I don't mean the anti-war protestors. Mostly I mean the commentators like Michelle Malkin, but from the pictures and the banners that woukld seem to apply to at least some of the Gathering of Vultures.

Rob,

What a bunch of sad embittered losers.

Go get a dictionary and look up the word "projection".

At least we know who masturbates to fantasies about spitting on veterans.

I noticed a common characteristic among vets, even when meeting veterans who are strangers, they always treat one another as if they were long-life friends.

Sounds terribly sad and bitter to me.

Why are we life long friends?

WE have been in harms way together. Truly a band of brothers.
