Latest from the Steven Vincent Foundation
Every once in a while the universe gives you a present, like continued interest in the life and death of someone you care about. Readers of this blog know we were big fans of Steven Vincent's reporting from Iraq, and we wrote about his murder and subsequent efforts by his widow Lisa to have his achievements honored, including his posthumous journalism award from the Institute for War and Peace Reporting in London, and the ceremony and panel discussion where Lisa accepted it.
Now the website for the Steven Vincent Foundation is online.
The story of his relationship with his wife Lisa and his translator Nour has been published in Marie-Claire's article "A Different Kind of Love Story" and a radio interview with Lisa and Nour (who is still in hiding in the Middle East). You can access both items here, and you should read and listen to them together. Nour describes their last hours in detail and it's harrowing. And Lisa and Steven's romantic love story creates a poignant context for the tragedy in Basra.
There is some talk about making an indie movie about Steven, and if this isn't a gripping story I don't know what is.
