Today Kesher Talk logged 5000 comments. I think when we transitioned to Movable Type from Blogger, we were able to bring along all comments from 2004-2006, so that's what we are counting from.

The 5000th comment was by co-blogger Benjamin Kerstein, in response to a critique of his serialized novel, by Scottish socialist and long-time KT gadfly Rob.

Thus three of the things that make Kesher Talk great are brought together in one milestone. The whole exchange is worth reading for its poignant humanism, intellectual depth and incisive wit.

I'm trying to think of a prize for Ben. Suggestions are welcome.

KT has come of age. Give Ben a fountain pen.

About 20 years ago I had a beautiful Mont Blanc with a gold tip. I don't remember what happened to it. But I didn't like the way it wrote that much, it had a very thick splurgy line.

My weapon of choice.

Give the boy the pen of his choice. I had no idea I was piggy-backing him to numerical glory. How about if I criticise his writing another 990 times or so and we see if we can get him to 6,000?

It may be a cold day in Hell before I find much to like about Benjamin, but if our double act gives pleasure to the reading hordes (KT is a Large Mammal after all) then I must concede that, like Smeagol, he may yet have his part to play for good in all of this.

Sorry - the first comment seemed to get eaten. I wasn't really trying to inch Ben to 6,000 y repetition!

Dare I wonder what prize you would have suggested for me had I had the lucky number?
