Teapacks at Eurovision

Remember Teapacks, the Israeli band whose entry to the Eurovision contest, "Push the Button," was deemed too edgy and political (but was entered anyway after an outcry from their fans)? We posted about the controversy and a bunch of their YouTube videos here and here, including "Push the Button."

Well, they didn't make it to the finals of the contest, and there was more controversy involving an audio glitch and artistic differences with the Helsinki stage production crew (about which more below), but they performed a rocking show.

Composer, lead singer and band leader Kobi Oz gives great interview - savvy, articulate, confrontative - check it out, below:

And the song that started it all, this time a live performance from about a week ago:

I do like the lead singers interview. Articulate and frank. However is it just me that wonders if Lebanon can join the Eurovision song contest too? It has a larger Christian population than Israel does it not?

Just a thought.

Israel gets included in "European" for some things because the rest of the Middle East won't accept her inclusion in their region. For example, Israel played European teams in the World Cup because Iran refused to play against Israelis. Israel is sort of included in the European region at the UN for the same reason. But not really. which maes Israel the only country in the world which can't participate at the UN at the regional level.

I don't know how the Eurovision contest works, but that kind of thing might come into play here.

Thanks for the clip. I missed the semifinal and was disappointed they weren't in the final.

With the voting being the stitch-up it usually is these days, they wouldn't have won, of course, but a little outrage is always nice.

Charles, I just listened to the last interview video for the first time.

Apparently, Lebanon WAS invited, and refused to participate if the Teapacks song was allowed to compete.

So there you go.....
