How Newspapers Win Readers
Due to the hurricane, I checked the website of the Corpus Christi Caller-Times, a paper I grew up reading. I saw a feature on its home page that showed how some newspapers drop the truth-to-power, no-war-for oil distance and speak in terms that appeal to their readers.
The paper has a "Support Our Military" page. It combines links to war news with pictures and greetings from home to Coastal Bend soldiers. I was very impressed by the idea, the technology and the execution. Kudos to the Caller's owner, the Scripps Newspaper Group. I hope the page translates into more business for the Caller, which helped spark my interest in journalism in the early 1970s.

Shalom,
One of the big reasons that there is a huge amount of support for the military here in Corpus is because the two largest employers in the area are the US Navy and the Corpus Christi Army Depot.
There's also a large amount of military retirees and veterans in South Texas so it helps keep the media in check when they might want to display a "stop the war but I really, really do love the troops I swear" mentality.
Nice site and even enjoyable for a goy like me.
