The Middle East Panel was actually kind of...fun
The coolest part about this panel really to me was John Mearsheimer. Juan Cole (of whom I am now a giant fan) did a fantastic job of really making the Middle East accessible, but still bringing in major fire power. I really don’t think people at Kos realized just how influential Mearsheimer is on the entire field of foreign policy, which made it all that more interesting. I have to say, that as someone who’s read everything he’s ever written, I was SHOCKED when people interrupted him, or questioned his judgment on the idea that oil companies did not, in fact, orchestrate the war in Iraq. He is, after all, John friggin Mearsheimer. I’m sure when he speaks at the Council on Foreign Relations, people don’t interrupt him. I don’t think the Presidents he’s counseled interrupt him. Mearsheimer was totally into it which was fantastic....
Gag me. I guess Mearsheimer didn't sleep alone that night. . . .

She is shocked that people interrupted Mearsheimer or questioned his judgment. I find her reverence for authority much more troubling than I do Mearsheimer's opinions, with which I mostly disagree. Since when does being a big shot entitle one to not be questioned? Big shots especially should be questioned. One of the big problems with the American Left is that leftists have personalized intellectual issues to the point where a lot of leftists no longer understand that ideas should be evaluated on their merits.

AWESOME FIND...and what a beautiful comment over there by a tribemember ...speaking as the goodman-esque kohane effing hagadol, one can never. ever have enough people, pointing out that people like Mearsheimier and Walt far from performing some higher learning truth finding function, actually have David Duke printed on their underwear, WHETHER THAT IS WHAT THEY INTEND OR NOT. Or that the key functional parts of their paper, are in fact indistinguishable in claim or FORM from the protocols. All these 'balance seekers' end up, you know, sort of like the last democrat I voted for for president, the rabbit killer hisself.
