Ronald Wilson Obama: Crazy Like a Fox?

Cruel commentators made sport of Barack Obama's gyrations on invading Pakistan, then backing off on using nuclear weapons. He's belligerent, he's indecisive, he's like Mike Dukakis riding a tank.

In my view, Obama is having a Ronald Reagan moment. Reagan succeeded in projecting American power because rogue nations thought Reagan was crazy enough to use that power. That no doubt helped shake the hostages loose from the Iranians as Reagan took over as president from Jhimmi.

And in 1984, Reagan joked during the sound check of a radio speech

My fellow Americans, I'm pleased to tell you today that I've signed legislation that will outlaw Russia forever. We begin bombing in five minutes.

This site has the audio file.

In his awkward way, was Obama trying on the mantle of crazy Ron, the man who sounded sincere and unhinged (to tender ears) enough to act on his statements? Are we hearing echoes of "We begin bombing in five minutes" from Obama's mouth?

I think that Obama wants to be viewed as crazy like a fox. Sure, he's backpedaling, but what if he suddenly said, on the nuclear issue, "Sorry, pal, I had my fingers crossed when I said that"? Obama could start saying so many contradictory things about the War on Terror -- we'll talk to them! No, we'll bomb them! Wait a minute, we'll do both! That's the ticket! -- that other governments won't know what to think, and will always feel off-kilter. People will feel like they're dealing with Eddie Murphy in 48 HRS.

That may be just the Presidential strategy we need -- a leaders who keeps the rest of the world guessing. He's already earned protests in Pakistan, which must mean something.

Wow! You sure are an optimist. I hope you're right, but personally I think he's just an idiot.

Nah, I don't think so. My impression of Obama from the start has been that he was an intelligent and personable guy who had spent most of his life finding himself. With two hands and a flashlight. It surprises me not a bit that he should step in it now and then when it comes to larger questions. I do wonder, however, who writes his speeches and why they are so far behind the curve. Aside from that, I don't think Obama has enough ambition to make it to the presidency, I think he was pushed into the race by others.

The difference between Reagan and Obama was that Reagan's conclusions had been preordained insane; and thus the fact that he went logically to them, with a measure of humor and prudence, was not noticed, at least by his rivals. With Obama, it is rather slender logic, if you can find it, that gets you to what seem more likely contradictory positions; thus he really is dangerous.

I liked Romney's take on Obama: First he wants to have tea with our enemies, then he wants to bomb our allies; he has gone from Jane Fonda to Dr. Strangelove in the span of the week.

Reagan was not insane. The MSM, completely unable to understand his conservatism, labeled him as a lunatic. They still think that conservatism is a mental illness.

Obama is not insane. He is just in way over his head.

The only conceivable reason which is NOT stupid dangerous and naive for BHO saying what he did is to score Reagan points. But if he smart enough for that he is smart enough to know that the MMA over there would eat up his words and SPIT THEM INTO PUSHTUN FREAKAZOID LAND.

Barack has no place as president, VP or, I am convinced now, as senator. But then Dick Durbin, John Kerry, Trent Lott ......
