Polling the Surge
Ben in NYC says:
What is the damned point of asking opinions as to how well the Surge is going? What good is the opinion of the average American?
Thank God we never saw...
As you may have heard, Patton's 3rd Army has made slow but steady progress breaking out of the Hedgerow country in northeast France during "Operation Cobra." Do you feel the advance has been:
1) Not fast enough?
2) About right?
3) So fast it threatens to outrun the supply chain?
4) Headed into a German trap?
Good frikking lord. If this is the future we are in dire straits indeed. What's next, do we vote on the weapons package for an airstrike?
New York Times, some time in the next decade...
B Troop of 1-7 Cavalry has confirmed an enemy observation post 2500 meters in front of their lead element. Do you feel this location should be:
A) Ignored
B) Attacked with artillery
C) Attacked with aircraft
D) Attacked with dismounted infantry
... If "D". should this be preceded with smoke from the 4.2" mortars?
How many rounds?
Shudder.
Okay, that's a bit unfair of me. Truth is, the New York Times would never print detail like that in order to have the civilian population weigh in on military strategy.
No, Never! Absolutely not! They'd do it in order to allow the enemy in the observation post ample time to escape.

There is a drawback to unedited, unplanned "reaction" posts of mine ending up here. Not that I back down from risks like that, but...
1) It doesn't seem to connect to the subject about which I was reacting- a link or mention to the poll, perhaps?
2) Northwest, not Northeast France.
