About Kesher Talk

  • "Kesher" means "connection" in Hebrew. The banner image is the mosaic floor of a 6th c. synagogue in Jericho, showing a menorah flanked by a shofar and lulav; the inscription reads "Shalom Al Yisrael." (This synagogue was destroyed by Arab vandals a few years ago. The condition of the mosaic floor is unknown.)

Giuliani on rogue dictators roaming NYC

Rudy on Iran, in CNN video interview. And other foreign policy questions about which he is very blunt. There is no mistaking, no wishy-washiness, abouty his foreign policy positions. And he's still polling ahead of, or head-to-head at least, with Hillary.

The guy asks him about putting the Emergency Response HQ in the building he did, he points out that the CIA and the Secret Service also had their HQ in that building. Has anyone else brought that up before?

With Dinnerjacket still threatening to visit Ground Zero, some of us long for the days when Rudy was mayor.

More Rudy on foreign policy below:

Moveon.org searches for something to swat Rudy with, and comes up with . . . . he declined to be on the Iraq Study Group panel.
* crickets *
That's it? That's all they could come up with? Anyone who even knows what the ISG is would see his absence as a point in his favor, I would think.

Finally, MoveOn labels Giuliani's decision not to serve on the ISG as "a betrayal of trust." You get the feeling the guys at MoveOn just have an itchy trigger finger when it comes to accusations of "betrayal"?

"John, I asked you to forward that e-mail to me, and you forgot. This is a betrayal!"

"Jane ate the last doughnut in the break room. This is an intolerable betrayal!"

UPDATE: Oh, by the way, thanks to Campaign Spot reader Chris for reminding me that one of the recommendations of the ISG was... Gen. David Petraeus' surge.

Further, adding more American troops could conceivably worsen those aspects of the security problem that are fed by the view that the U.S. presence is intended to be a long-term “occupation.” We could, however, support a short term redeployment or surge of American combat forces to stabilize Baghdad, or to speed up the training and equipping mission, if the U.S. commander in Iraq determines that such steps would be effective.

So MoveOn is criticizing Rudy for not joining a group that made a policy recommendation that they denounce. Brilliant.

I wish I could say I have high hopes for Rudy, but I'm afraid he's going to be faced with incredible pressure to bend once he takes office.

I remember a time not long ago when the Israelis were tired of the playing games with Arafat and decided to elect Sharon. Not in my wildest dreams would I have imagined that in a few years, Arik Sharon would be vilified by the Right for making too many concessions to the Palestinians.

Keeping a rigid position in politics is almost impossible long-term, I think, for almost anyone. No matter how tough.

That said, if Rudy gets elected and sticks to his guns, at least for awhile, I'll be pleasantly surprised.
