Free-Market Flag Desecration Day
This item on the idea for a sharia bake sale got me to thinking: I'd like to see the results of a free-market flag desecration sale. We always see pictures of zhlubs burning and trampling on the U.S. and Israeli flags, so why not have a fundraising event that allows people the opportunity to desecrate a broader, richer variety of national symbols?
The zhlubs always look like they're enjoying themselves. Other people should get in on the fun, too. My idea is to have an ideology-neutral event where people can desecrate flags in a safe, nurturing, creative environment. This concept does not come easily to conservatives, but with the proper encouragement perhaps they can get into the spirit of things.
Here's how it would work:
Let's say the event takes place at a university. Students would set up a table equipped with a high-speed quality color printer. They would have a banner announcing "Fun For All! Desecrate the Flag of Your Choice, $1." They would then have a selection book of flags from around the world, including historical flags for desecrators who want to wrap their fingers around the Stars and Bars or Rising Sun flag.
Buyers would make their choice, then get a lovely color print on heavy-matte paper, 11 X 17 size. They could then do whatever they wanted with their flag -- crumple it, burn it, stomp on it, blow their nose on it, or take it into a port-o-san for other uses. A video would be made and sent to the president/prime minster/lider maximo/ruling junta of whatever country whose flag is being disrespected.
The results of this event would gauge the rage lurking in students. Freed from the narrow confines of the traditional flag-burning population (Death to America, Death to Israel, Death to Denmark, how boring and predictable it all is), they could indicate by their investment choices the countries or antique causes that truly anger them. The results could then be posted and contrasted across campuses. It would be a rainbow mosaic of rage against the symbols. If it worked, we could move on to other desecration targets, perhaps involving pinatas with familiar faces.

I'm in. UW Madison is a perfect venue for this.

It's a great idea, but I'm afraid that the fun would only last until somebody tried desecrating, say, a green flag with a sword on it. Then people would die.
